Our Story

Since 1952, Harvey’s Butter Rum Batter has been providing a specialty mix used for making delicious drinks and other recipes. Our batter is made batch-by-batch, using real butter and other premium ingredients that give it the quality and unforgettable flavor our fans have always known. Harvey’s Butter Rum Batter can be found in grocery, convenience and liquor stores in the Pacific Northwest and Mountain Region, and is used by restaurants and bars. For our fans that don’t have Harvey’s in their area, we offer an online store and ship across the United States.
In the fall of 2014, Harvey’s purchased the Little River Candy Company out of Wenatchee, WA and added a new treat to our line. Crisp and delicious, our toffee popcorn is like no other. It’s truly a confection and made using real candy making techniques. There are no shortcuts taken here, and once you try it, you are sure to become a fan just like our batter. In 2016 with the purchase of Casey’s Kettle Corn out of Sequim, WA, we further expanded our popcorn line.
Our Heritage
Harvey Hudson first created his special butter rum batter in 1952 while tending bar at a local Bremerton, Washington lounge. It earned such a following that customer’s began asking to buy a tub to make their own drinks at home. In the 1960’s the demand had grown so much that he contracted with a local dairy and started producing the batter in larger batches “after hours” using their equipment. The dairy distributed the tubs on their home delivery route.
The business continued to grow and in 1972, Harvey opened his own plant in Bremerton, WA and expanded distribution. Harvey was passionate about his business and his customers until 2011, when he passed at the age of 94. Having been born and raised in the same community, and knowing its great history, I was delighted to purchase Harvey’s Butter Rum Batter in December of 2011.
Quality, passion and of course tradition play a huge role in our teams mission of carrying on the legacy that Harvey Hudson started many years ago. Our fans keep us going and are the reason we do what we do. We sincerely thank you for making it so much fun!

Absolutely. We have several recipes on our website that feature the butter rum batter-from drinks to desserts. Please take a look at them and also join us on our blog and FB page for additional ideas and to share your ideas.
Our batter does not contain actual alcohol in it. We use a delicious flavoring that gives it the rum taste.
Harvey’s just sells to our wholesale accounts out of our plant. We value our stores and retail accounts for carrying our products, just as they value you as customers. If there is not a retail store in your area, we do offer an online store for your convenience and can even assist you with your gift giving needs.
Due to food safety regulations, we are not able to offer tours or our production facility. We do wholesale production and are not set up to accommodate the public.
Our butter rum batter and toffee corn are gluten free. Currently there are no items in our production facility that contain gluten, so no chance of any cross-contamination.
Our batter has a 2 year shelf life under refrigeration and even longer if frozen. The toffee corn is best when eaten within 4 months of production.

Our beloved rabbit or should we say “polka”, named Harvey, comes from the Pulitzer Prize Play “Harvey”, which was made into a movie starring James Stewart in the 1950’s. Because “Harvey” is never seen in the movie our Founder, Harvey Hudson was able to bring the character to life and officially get a Trademark registration on him.
